My weekend was kind of a whirlwind. Thursday I shot a show at the Crystal, Friday was a friend’s birthday, and Saturday started with girls brunch at Tin Shed (IYKYK) and somehow ended with me shooting The Rat Utopia Experiment at Swan Dive after emailing their management at midnight the night before.

If you haven’t seen them, highly recommend. Easily one of the sweatiest shows I’ve been to in years, but also one of those shows you leave feeling weirdly energized after.

Now apparently it’s supposed to rain for six days straight? Womp womp. So I put together a list of things to do while we dip our toes into wet season.

• After more than 15 years together, Fruition is heading out for the Something More: The Final Tour. Catch the Americana band at the Crystal Ballroom on Thursday, Jan. 28th.

• Portland’s How Strange It Is is celebrating the release of THERE IS NO EVIL with a hometown show at Show Bar on Thursday, Oct. 22nd. The new album moves between slowcore, indie rock, and post-punk.

• Casual Eddie has a Sunday night stop at The Showdown on Sept. 20th. They’ll be joined by a special guest, with the show starting at 8PM.

• Stop Light Observations have spent more than a decade building a following well beyond their Charleston roots. They’ll take the stage at Dante’s on Saturday, Nov. 7th, with a special guest still to come.

Well, rain is on the forecast for six straight days this week, and if you’re anything like me, the first two days are all, “Wow, I missed this,” and then the cabin fever hits. So as we dip our toes back into wet season, here are a few ways to get out of the house without actually having to be out in it.

• Apparently Portland has decided parallel parking is a spectator sport now. More than 85 people competed in the city’s second annual Parallel Parking Competition on Sunday, complete with PBOT judges, hundreds of people watching, and a tiny car trophy for the winner.

• Creepy’s is making Mondays a little less painful with trivia every week from 7–9PM. It’s free, it’s 21+, and at the very least you get to find out how much useless information you’ve been carrying around in your brain.
